MULTIPLE AND THE VERTICAL LINES
 TIP #1: 

When grouping, the art should be visually balanced on both sides of an imaginary vertical line.  Art should be similar in either color scheme, frame style or subject matter.

Art hung over a piece of furniture should be no larger than 75% of the piece of furniture.

HANGING COLLECTIONS

TIP #3:

A tightly grouped collection with spacing of 1"-2" in small area like a landing gives a window effect.  Light colors enhance this effect.

As a Realtor I would say that NON-proportional pieces on the wall is so very distracting and one of the biggest faux pas  I see.  (Clutter & cleanliness #1... Proportion #2).  When I walk into a room and see a teeny-tiny photos hanging on a large wall or behind the sofa or some small item unanchored, etc. 

I have to scratch my head and say..hmmmmmmmmm?!?

So---IF IN DOUBT LEAVE IT OUT!!!
